LACONNER, Wash. — The Rainbow Bridge in LaConner was closed for inspection Thursday after a citizen reported shortly after 1 p.m. hearing a loud noise and seeing possible material falling from the bridge.

Washington State Department of Transportation officials were contacted by Skagit County and arrived at the scene for further inspection. After several hours of inspection, WSDOT declared the bridge safe — and the span was reopened at about 9:35 p.m.

The bridge has been around since 1957. It crosses to the Swinomish Reservation and the Shelter Bay community.

Better look again…From my workplace 2 of my employees working outside in plain view of the bridge 300 yards away heard the bang and saw the dust cloud. Wasn't fireworks…smoke goes up..the dust went down.
