Police seeing 'epidemic' of car thefts around Puget Sound
EDMONDS -- Edmonds police say they are seeing an epidemic of car thefts in the city limits and many of the instances have happened along highway 99 as drivers leave their cars unattended for long periods of time.
During the month of June, police say they were called to investigate one car theft every single day on average. The three types of cars stolen are late model Hondas, Toyotas and Nissans.
Officers want to get the word out to residents so they don't be victims. Police say you should always lock your car with the windows rolled up. Never leave computers or cell phones in an unattended vehicle.
Several of the car thefts have occurred in parking lots where cars are left by their owners for long periods of time. Police say if you park your car in a public parking lot for several hours a day you should consider getting some type of security alarm.
