Dad charged with DUI, reckless endangerment after rolling car with 3 kids inside

OLYMPIA -- A South Sound father is now charged with driving drunk and crashing his car with his three young children inside.

Heber Garcia’s children survived the crash. The 5-year-old, 7-year-old, and 10-year-old kids are doing OK. They were all released to their mother’s care after Wednesday night’s crash.

Garcia’s wife was visibly emotional in court, waiting to hear if the judge would grant her husband bail.

Garcia bailed out of jail after the wreck but was required to appear in court again on Thursday.

Police say Garcia’s Toyota Carola rolled over along I-5 near Tumwater Wednesday evening.

Prosecutors say Garcia’s blood alcohol level was .087, just barely above the legal limit.

Garcia pleaded not guilty to his charges and the judge set his bail at $15,000. That’s when sheriff’s deputies cuffed Garcia and led him out of court.

The judge said Garcia would also have to wear an alcohol-monitoring device if he’s able to bail out of jail.
