Teens' plot to steal car from 70-year-old woman thwarted by manual transmission

SEATTLE -- Three teenagers held a 70-year-old woman at gunpoint and stole her car keys Saturday afternoon, police said. Just one problem: none of them knew how to drive a car with manual transmission.

Police said the suspects were unable to drive the car, so they got out and ran.

Officers searched the area near the 1400 block of South Main Street around 4:30 p.m., but could not find any of the suspects.

Investigators collected DNA/fiber evidence from the car and got surveillance footage from a nearby business that shows the suspects running away through a parking lot.

The victim was not hurt and no damage was done to her car.
