Olympia/Thurston County Crime Stoppers kicks-off senior safety awareness program

OLYMPIA -- Who is preying on our grandma's and grandpa's? More often than not, it's caregivers or family members -- that's the message being passed on from this year's Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Olympia/Thurston County Crime Stoppers kicked-off a senior support and awareness campaign this week at Nisqually Automotive and Towing, aimed at keeping seniors safe. The business performed a free 24-point vehicle inspection for anyone over 60, inflating their tires and topping off their fluids. They serviced 16 cars and volunteers handed out 41 bags of information to seniors to help protect them from abuse, theft and neglect. "People tend to take advantage of our seniors, and are not always aware of when they are being taken advantage of,” says Julie Major with Olympia/Thurston County Crime Stoppers. If you think a senior is being abused or you are a victim yourself, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS and report it. CLICK HERE for information on how to TEXT A TIP to Crime Stoppers.
