Seattle man arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap, rape 10-year-old girl

SEATTLE – A 25-year-old Seattle man has been arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap and rape a 10-year-old girl in south Seattle Monday night.

According to court documents, Seattle police said that at about 6:53 p.m. Monday a man asked the girl for directions to a nearby library. After she told him how to get to the library, which was about a mile away, the suspect told the girl he knew of a quicker way to take to the library and then pulled the girl into a wooded area against her will in the 8800 block of 7th Avenue South and told her wanted to have sex with her.

The girl told police the man told her that if she did not have sex with him, he was going to rape her. Scared, she tried to run, but said the man grabbed her by her left wrist and she fell to the ground. But she managed to get away and ran out of the wooded area.

A person driving by saw the little girl running out of the woods screaming for help and stopped.  That driver saw the man running from the scene and was able to call 911 and give the operator a description.

A suspect was arrested about two blocks from the incident at about 8:27 p.m., police said.

He was booked into the King  County Jail for investigation of kidnapping and investigation of rape. Bail was set at $250,000.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
