WATCH: 'Epic' orca footage captures veteran whale watcher's 'best shore encounter' ever

SAN JUAN ISLAND, Wash – An incredible site for visitors to Lime Kiln State Park on Tuesday, two pods of orcas joined up just off shore and put on an amazing show.

Photographer Traci Walter captured over 7 minutes of video of the whales repeatedly surfacing, slapping their tales and swimming back and forth.

“Small group from J Pod headed north, then turned back south to go get their friends from L Pod! Then then came back past us all. As soon as they got north, then turned again back south, only to flip again and come back one final time. WHAT. A. DAY!”  wrote Walter on the YouTube posting.

Walter called the footage ‘epic’ in a Facebook post.

“It was such an incredible experience,” wrote Walter.  “I've been watching whales for 8 years and this is one of the best shore encounters I've ever had. Talk about adrenaline coursing through my veins!”

Lime Kiln State Park is a 36 acre state park on the western shore of San Juan Island.
