Mob attacks teen, chases him through busy streets

SEATTLE -- A mob attack sends a teen running for his life, and dodging cars, through the streets of Capitol Hill.

"This was a very dangerous situation," said Selam Gedremeskel, the victim's mom.

She was working at the Shell gas station on Broadway, and was shocked to see her son running into the store trailed by a pack of teens who turned out to be his attackers.

"He told me, 'Mom, Mom call 911, the guys, they are following me.'"

The group of four had surrounded her 17-year old son blocks away, demanding his shirt and backpack.

"He refused and they punched him in the face," said Pat Michaud, with Seattle police. "The victim decided to run away to where his mom was working."

In his panic, he ran across Broadway, dodging cars on his way to the gas station. When he got to the station, his attackers followed him in and his mom called 911. Police responded quickly and were able to apprehend two of the attackers. Two are still on the loose.

The teen victim told us he still fears for his life, worried that they'll come after him.

There have been other recent mob attacks on Capitol Hill, including last Saturday, near the Shell station, when four attackers beat a man and took his cell phone.

After seeing her son be victimized, Gedremeskel said enough is enough.

"This community, we have to help each other, and stop this crime before it gets worse and worse."
