House threatened by landslide moved -- for free!

ARLINGTON, Wash. -- A landslide near Arlington continues chewing away at the ground, threatening two homes.

Q13 FOX News first shared the Eanes family’s plight in April. But thanks to a generous construction company, their home is no longer teetering on the edge of disaster.

Juanita Eanes had nowhere else to turn for help, but the Nickel Bros. company stepped up and saved her house – moving it 50 feet farther away from the slide.

“They have just done an incredible amount to relieve us of our anxiety and have allowed us to stay longer here than we thought,” said Juanita.

Moving a house requires delicate hands. For three days, workers have inched the Eanes’ house away from the slow-moving slide.

“It was so amazing to see all the maneuvering of the machinery,” said Juanita. “And it’s free?”

That’s right. All of the work, nearly $25,000 worth, has been donated.

“We got it done really,” said Dusty Sorenson with Nickel Bros.

For years Juanita’s back yard has been slowly disappearing into the south fork of the Stillaguamish River. The county told her if the slide moved any closer to her house, the structure would have to be condemned.

“Everything was looking grim till the Nickel Bros. stepped up and said we’re willing to help you,” Juanita said.

The project began when the Nickel brothers were working next door. Another landslide threatened that home. Crews even heard the rocks and debris slide into the river.

“I thought it was wind,” Dusty said. “After we heard it hit, all the water rushing back from the other side sounded like wind.”

When his crews saw the gaping hole in Juanita’s back yard, they say they had to help.

“Doing smaller stuff like this and helping people out is what we’re all about,” said Dusty.

So now the Eanes get to stay in their home, and for now enjoy what’s left of their back yard.

“The future looked bleak before, it looks promising now,” Juanita said.

Another company is scheduled to come in and put everything else back together this weekend. Juanita says all of that work will be done for free as well.
