OSO -- A portion of Highway 530 near Oso is scheduled to reopen to traffic at noon Saturday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

WSDOT says the contractor removed 90,000 cubic yards of material from the road, but there is still more material next to the road.

The damaged stretch of road has been closed since the deadly mudslide in March.

Crews discovered 600 feet of highway missing as they cleared the road. Some sections will not be repaved in order to reopen the highway sooner, according to WSDOT.

When the highway reopens, the road will be a single lane and a pilot car will lead vehicles at 25 mph in each direction.

The March 22 mudslide killed 42 people and moved more than 100,000 cubic yards of debris along a mile-long portion of Highway 530.
