SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash — Three people were killed and two others injured in an early morning crash Friday on Highway 20 in Skagit County.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Mark Francis said the two car head-on crash happened around 5:10 a.m. near Hamilton Cemetery Rd E in Sedro-Woolley.
Francis identified the dead as Frederick Brand, 65, of Concrete; Nicole A. Washington, 23, of Sedro-Wooley; and Megan L. Brown, 21, of Bellingham.
The injured — Alfredo Navarro Jr., 19, of Mount Vernon, and Quinnton A. Baxter, 22, of Burlington — were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The Washington State Patrol said a 1998 Audi A4 was eastbound on State Route 20 when it crossed the center line and struck Brand’s westbound Ford Fusion head-on, killing him. The two young women killed in the crash were in the Audi.
WSP investigators are on the scene trying to determine what caused the crash. Troopers said alcohol could be a factor.
Highway 20 was closed all morning and troopers were recommending S. Skagit Highway as a detour.

Or maybe they were going to work. You don't know so maybe you should keep your comments to yourself. Accidents happen.

accidents happen for a reason, they don't just "happen"

I am not here to judge as to what happened because there are to many variables to make assumptions. Since moving here to Washington I have noticed that people are so rude and so many people want to automatically lay blame to alcohol, pot, texting, or something like they know what they are talking about and look at some of these comments and that proves that plus is proves they lack basic education. Sure one or all of those could be true, but we don't know. A deer could have acted like it was about to dart across the road which made her swerve a little, tire blowout could cause that easily, or any number of things. Fact is, these young girls and the man in the other car died. Its such a sad loss. No matter what caused it.

Dave, since “you are not here to judge” us uneducated, rude, blaming Washingtonians, you might consider going back to wherever you came from, no doubt a place where “wisdom” like yours flourishes…

Of course speed was a factor, and so was alcohol! These make up so many fatal crashes in the US; it's tragic. I blog about these daily at The Car Crash Detective (click my username).

I lost my best friend this night. The drunk driver killed 3 innocent people…he only got 15 years. Please , justice is not served for these 3!
