SEATTLE — Another successful We Day has come and gone in Seattle.
Fifteen thousands students and teachers from over 450 schools across Washington state packed into the KeyArena Friday to celebrate We Day, an initiative of Free The Children. We Day encourages young students to be informed and involved in philanthropy across the community and the world.
Students who came didn’t buy a ticket, they’ve earned it. Throughout the day, they celebrated action and community involvement with renowned speakers such as Edward Norton and Pete Carroll, Cody Simpson and Flo Rida.
Below you can relive the excitement of the day by scrolling back through our live blog posts as events happened.
LIVE BLOG —
The loudest cheer I’ve heard in my life is when the Seahawks got out on stage with Kaci. It was insane.
Coach Carroll — “We’re grateful. We have a chance to do things like this that our truly special. I feel very fortunate.”
Wilson — “We’ve all been told no before. I’ve been told no before over and over again that I couldn’t do something. I’ve been told no, but I believed in myself. My confidence never wavered. I know my talent that God’s given me and I never give up on something I want. You need to have that mentality. It’s a belief in yourself.”
Russell Wilson — “Kaci Aitchinson would be a quarterback.”
Carroll — “You look at how young these guys are (points to players) they are accomplished.”
Pete Carroll — “These guys are a great example of practice. They go in with a great deal of confidence because of practice. They know how to take care of business. They know you’re ready to go.”
Derrick Coleman — “The only opinions that matter are the people that you are doing it with and yourself. At the end of the day, it’s your life and you have to be happy with what you’re doing.”
Wilson — “We look forward to the consistency with everyone in the coaching organizations.”
Russell Wilson — “Any great leader has to be consistent. We as players know what we’re getting everyday. Win or lose. Though we don’t lose very often.”
Russell Wilson — It’s a blessing to play football. It’s something we look forward to all the time.
Here come the Seahawks! We’re ready for the interview.
We’re about to interview Russell Wilson, Derrick Coleman, Bobby Wagner and Jermaine Kearse. Do you have any questions for them? Let us know in our comment section.
Pete Carroll said We Day Seattle just set another world record for noise. We Day and the 12s are a powerful combination.
Craig Kielburger, the founder of We Day, is listing off all the accomplishments from youth around the area. Planting trees, helping to feed the homeless, and more. It’s pretty inspiring, especially as chants of “We Day” erupt in the crowd.
“Whether it providing hope for the people in the Ukraine, or giving water to those tho don’t have it, you can help.” MLK III said. “What I want you to think about is in life, you got to find your calling. You got to do find your calling and do it well.”
“A few good men and women can lead to many,” Martin Luther King III says. “You’re here now so you can be a part of making the world better.”
Martin Luther King III is speaking right now. “Each of you should have a dream,” he says. “It only takes a few good woman and men to create many.”
Carroll — “This organization is so wide open, with so much freedom involved. You couldn’t ask for a better system. They do it so well and thy can deliver. The kids really do well and get connected.”
Pete Carroll — “We the Children cares so much about the kids. They care so much about getting kids active. Without the leadership they bring, kids would be left to do it on their own.”
We Day founder Craig Keilburger says, “We love that these kids give to the community, but the real success is 20 years from now. When they are the doctors, lawyers and journalists that keep giving back to the community.”
Pete Carroll is in the house! Two years ago, he called the Co-founders of Free the Children with Craig Kielburger and brought it here to Seattle.
Today’s lineup includes Edward Norton, Joe Jonas, Flo Rida, Cody Simpson, Dr. Elizabeth Lindsey, Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson and more.
