Contrary to other media reports, Cobain’s case was not re-opened Thursday and there were no new findings in the case, Seattle Police Department Spokeswoman Renee Witt. Police did dig up files to look over the investigation, but found nothing new.
Witt said the only reason police looked at the case is because the 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death is approaching, and officers anticipated renewed interest in the case.
Police will release new photographs from the case and answer questions on the 20th Anniversary of Cobain’s death on April 5. Cobain was found dead of a shotgun wound to his head on April 8, 1994. Police said he committed suicide three days before.
However, many conspiracy theorists believe the Nirvana frontman was murdered.
