OLYMPIA — Gov. Jay Inslee on Wednesday signed into law the state’s version of the “Dream Act” to expand financial aid to undocumented students who were brought into the United States illegally.

State Sen. Barbara Bailey, R-Oak Harbor, one of the sponsors of the REAL Hope Act, attended the signing ceremony in the governor’s office.

“I’m proud that we have been able to find a solution to this issue,” Bailey said in a news conference. “These students were raised in our state, have gone through our K-12 schools and now have chance to afford college in our state.”

On Feb. 18, the House of Representatives gave final legislative approval to the bill, which also provides an additional $5 million to the State Need Grant Program for financial aid for qualified low-income students.

Inslee had promised to sign the measure into law.

“The Dream Act represents a new future for many aspiring Washington students,” Inslee said in a written statement on Feb. 18. “While we’ve opened the doors of our colleges and universities to students from all walks of life, too many still face an insurmountable financial barrier.

“This bill ensures that the young men and women we’ve invested in at our high schools and who aspire to become productive American citizens will now have fair access to the financial support they need to turn their dreams into reality,” the governor said. “This is a landmark achievement for the 2014 session. I appreciate the hard work of the legislators and students who have been working on this for so long and who helped pass this bill. I look forward to signing this bill and celebrating a big step forward for thousands of young Washingtonians.”

The new law could grant scholarship money to “any person who has completed the full senior year of high school,” and had lived in Washington state at least three years.

Interesting. I was born and raised here in the good ol’ USA and I don’t qualify for a State Need Grant or financial aid to cover all my college tuition costs due to my income. My income? It barely covers bills, groceries, and every day things like gas but it’s enough to disqualify me from receiving financial aid while grants will be handed over to undocumented immigrants so THEY have a shot at a better future? That makes no sense, Washington!

Yeap, given to them by the same folk who looked the other way while their parents made a beeline for the border. The ones that sent the jobs abroad and brought this ones into our country to satiate the appetite for cheap labor for the many business you probably support.

  • Joe

Now all the low income minimum wage worker who can't afford college get to pay more taxes, Democrats are insane, but you wil figure it out eventually

  • shaun

i thought that we had no money, that we had to cut food stamps…apparently the Legislature is very invested with illegals…they are votes, 17 million of them.

and thy registered payed there taxes thy contributed learned the English languish im sure. were as the ones coming over the up from there country Do not pay taxes, Do not try to learn how to contribute learn the English or try to help others(except there own), then want the American dream that is diapering.

Well, I'm not really surprised……Just cannot offend anyone, you know. Just another political correct decision. The ONLY people they want to offend, are the ones who came here legally, for it is they, who the government will get the money from, to pay for all this. We are the ones that will suffer in the end, while those who are illegal reap the benefits of what our taxes pay for. Just one more example of the politicians doing what they want……….and who, has the guts to stop them??? Election day will come again, and I sure will not forget this, but far too many will and guess what, these same lame morons will again be telling us what we need, want and will and will not, get or do. We…………have now become the peasants to be told by Big Brother, on how to live our lives, and we must do it in accordance with their rules.

    • The World is Ending

The problem is thanks to the democrats with the support of groups like the ACLU the illegals are voting because it is considered discrimination to actually have to prove that you can vote legally to even register.

      • ShadowWalker59

Political Correctness running amuck!!! The minorities now are beginning to wield the power of voting, of crying racism, bigotry, constitutional 'rights' and any other thing that takes away the actual rights of all those who are LEGAL, hard working, tax paying, honest citizens. No one is to be offended, if they are, then like old Germany……….YOU, could go to jail or prison. Just think about it. YOU, could be classified a bad person, if you go to church, believe in God, have good moral values and believe in doing the right and honest thing.

Glad that Peoria who sneak into the country illigal lay get free money whereas the rest of us have to take out loans because our parents crossed that imaginary line in the proper manner. I love my backwards stupid.state. Glad I didn’t. Vote for Inslee. You mothers who did are going to join the rest of us paying out thale crapper for this genius plan.

    • ShadowWalker59

No, they won't, come next election, most people will forget and vote him right back in office again, to do the same things over again, and that is, to give the honest working people the shaft!!, while they (The politicians), get the gold and…………..The POWER, to tell you and me what to do, how to do it, and when to do it!! Keep your memory alive, don't let it drift away, keep these things that they do, alive in your memory bank and no matter what they do to try and make you forget…………..DON'T. That is their plan, I'm telling you.

  • Joe

As the Welfare State Expands and the expens of the McPoverty workers. They breed lots of babies, great for depentans on demorts for more welfare, what a deal.

  • Joe

They now have a proud heritage of welfare dependancy, they can now brag about it to the grandchildren who will be stuck paying for this bag of Donkey Dung.

  • guest

So if I rob a bank, (a crime) and my kids get rich from the proceeds, they should get to keep the illegal money? seems like the same line of thinking to me, rewarding the children of those who committed a criminal act. someone explain the difference please.

  • ShadowWalker59

You know, it appears that voting is the ONLY thing that interests these politicians today, so with that in mind, make sure your memory doesn't falter or go dim. That is one 'weapon' the politicians keep in mind when they do things like this, and that is………….The LEGAL citizens of this city, county, state and country, have very short memories. When it comes election time again, they will do SOMETHING to take your minds off what they have done to you in the recent past, and you will look at them and say, 'Gee, this guy/woman or whatever, is doing a good thing, so…….I will vote for him/her again'! And guess what?, they will shove it to you again, and in the short term, you will be a little angry, but you'll forget and they will be back in office………………AGAIN. It's just plain time to vote them OUT of office and keep doing so, until we can stop all this nonsense, thievery, gauging, lying and their political power, and get someone who will actually serve the people again!!……instead of the other way around. Don't just TALK, actually get out and vote, and vote these people who are in office OUT, and start over, until they screw up and then, do it again, until one day…….they will get the idea.

It’s sad the amount of piss poor spelling bigots in this state/country. Who does the back breaking labor that the entitled “legal” citizen (the white non minorities of which you speak) refuses to do but turns around and cries about not being able to find a job? Oh that’s right, immigrants. Many of them illegal. If they want to give their kids a chance to speak and act far better on worldly issues than any of you folks can, WHILE doing the jobs you all are too fat, too “educated”, too entitled, and too American to do, then right on!

Yesterday, while I was at work, my cousin stole my apple ipad and tested to see if it can survive a 40
foot drop, just so she can be a youtube
sensation. My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views.

I know this is entirely off topic but I had to share it with someone!
