Netflix, Comcast strike streaming deal

SEATTLE -- Netflix and Comcast have struck a deal to keep programming streaming smoothly to customers.

On Sunday, Netflix confirmed the deal, and according to The Wall Street Journal, the deal said Netflix would pay Comcast to have direct access to its broadband network. Neither Comcast nor Netflix would confirm details of the arrangement, however.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Verizon is said to be in talks with Netflix to figure out an agreement.

The Comcast deal followed word that Netflix had been butting heads with internet service providers over the amount of bandwidth used by Netflix streaming. At peak times, Netflix can account for a third of all U.S. broadband network traffic.
