High winds flatten historic Lakewood barn

LAKEWOOD -- High winds overnight flattened an historic barn that has stood for more than a century at Fort Steilacoom Park.

No one was hurt when the barn collapsed, but the city of Lakewood must now decide whether any of the material can be salvaged for historic significance.

The city of Lakewood’s Mary Dodsworth says the bar, located east of Waughop Lake, was so fragile already it wasn’t being used for any purpose.

A temporary fence was put up around the mess as the city decides what to do next.

Wind gusts were reported between 35 and 40 miles per hour overnight around the Puget Sound region.

More storms are expected through the end of the week.
