Army sergeant arrested at JBLM on allegations of child rape

OLYMPIA -- A 27-year-old Army sergeant has been arrested at Joint Base Lewis-McChord on allegations of child rape.

Investigators from the FBI, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division and the Washington State Patrol, acting upon a tip from Florida state, arrested the soldier at the base Tuesday and booked him into the Pierce County Jail.

"The current charges involve multiple assaults upon a single victim over a period of about three years," a news release from the law enforcement agencies said.

But it provided no details, and said investigators "will now focus on verifying statements from those involved, and forensic examination of computers, smart phones and any other digital media."

It also said it had not yet been determined if the soldier would be prosecuted at the state or federal level.

Since no formal charges have yet been filed, Q13 FOX News is not naming the soldier.
