YAKIMA — Three teenage boys were arrested Monday after allegedly kidnapping a 15-year-old girl and throwing her into the trunk of a car, the Yakima Herald Republic reported.
The girl was walking to school around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of 64th and Terry Avenues when a car approached her, the Republic reported. Three boys exited a stolen car wearing masks and brandishing a handgun and forced the girl into the trunk of the car before driving off.
According to the Republic, two of the juveniles got out of the car shortly after the kidnapping. The girl managed to call police from the trunk of her car and provide a description of the vehicle to an officer.
A Washington State Patrol Trooper spotted the stolen car traveling westbound on State Route 410 toward Chinook Pass. The driver pulled over and was arrested without incident.
Police believe the driver and the kidnapped girl had a previous relationship. It is unknown where the driver was taking the girl, police told the Republic.
“We’re not even sure what his intent was, but obviously it wasn’t good,” a Yakima Police Department spokesman told the Republic.
