SUPER BOWL BOUND!

SEATTLE -- For the second time in franchise history, the Seattle Seahawks are going to the Super Bowl.

It was anything but easy. It's was anything but clean. It was anything less than heart-stopping.

The Seattle Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 to send the team to Super Bowl XLVIII. The game was decided on a last-minute interception, as a pass from Colin Kaepernick to Michael Crabtree was tipped in the endzone by Richard Sherman and intercepted by Malcom Smith. Smith downed the ball in the endzone to effectively end the game.

After the game, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll seemed elated.

"It's been unbelievable," Carroll said. "We always believed in ourselves."

Quarterback Russell Wilson shared his enthusiasm following the game.

"There is no place I'd rather be than right here," Wilson said to Terry Bradshaw after the game.

It took 60 minutes, multiple turnovers and a few heart-wrenching stops for the Seahawks to cement their ticket to Super Bowl XLVIII, where they'll face Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

The game started off painfully slow for the Hawks, who fell behind 10-0 early and struggled to get together any sort of offense. The Hawks went into the locker room down 10-3, with a lone 32-yard field goal putting the Hawks on the board.

The offense got going early in the third quarter with a 40-yard touchdown run from Marshawn Lynch, but the 49ers quickly answered on a 26-yard touchdown pass fom Colin Kaepernick to Anquan Boldin. The Seahawks answered with a field goal, to put the Hawks within four.

But it was the fourth quarter, the fourth quarter that makes football games legendary. The passing game finally got going in the fourth quarter, with Wilson connecting to University of Washington alumni Jermaine Kearse for a 35-yard touchdown on a fourth down and 7. The Seahawks held strong on defense when they needed to, despite multiple missed opportunities, and the game ended on the last second interception.

Both the Seahawks and the Denver Broncos led their respective divisions with the best record all year. Now the teams will meet Feb. 2 in the Meadowlands in New Jersey.
