Mary Kay Letourneau in jail again

MaryKSEATTLE — Mary Kay Letourneau, the former teacher who was convicted of having sex with a sixth grade student, was booked into Seattle Correctional Facility early Monday morning.

Letourneau was booked for failing to appear in court and driving with a suspended license. She is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail. The charge is a criminal charge, but one of the lowest-level charges on the books.

According to Tukwila police, a warrant was issued for her arrest in 2013 when she failed to appear in court for a suspended driver’s license and unpaid traffic infractions.

Letourneau’s name was a fixture on nighttime news in the late 90s she was arrested for statutory rape of her 12-year-old student, Vili Fualaau. A former teacher at Shorewood Elementary School in Burien, Letourneau was sentenced to six months in jail for her involvement with the former student.

The two married when she was released from jail.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 7.
