Car dealership paying out $420K to 12 people over Seahawks promotion

FEDERAL WAY -- In a wacky promotion reminiscent of old-timey giveaways, Jet Chevrolet in Federal Way is paying a total $420,000 for 12 lucky fans after the Seahawks shutout the New York Giants 23-0 on Sunday.

Jet Chevrolet agreed to pay 12 lucky fans $35,000 each if the Seahawks shutout the Giants in a promotion called Jet Chevrolet Shutout Sweepstakes.  In the week prior to the game, Jet Chevrolet advertised the promotion. Anyone who bought a car Wednesday-Saturday the week before the game received 100 entries into the contest. Just for stopping by the dealership contestants were entered to win as well.

About 20 people bought cars during the promotion and another dozen or so entered without buying a thing.

The General Manager of the dealership says they ran the contest because the Seahawks are all people are talking about right now.

The dealership had insurance for the promotion to cover the costs, the Tacoma News Tribune reported. Before Sunday, the last time the Giants were shutout at home was Sept. 4 1995.

The details of the drawing are still being worked on between Jet Chevrolet and their insurance provider.
