Dry & cloudy, rain on the way

Today is our transition day from our cold & dry weather pattern to a more seasonal warm & wet. We're going to see increasing clouds today as the front with the rain approaches Western Washington. High temperatures today around much of Western Washington should get to around 40 degrees. Yesterday's high at SeaTac was 42-- and the normal for this part of December is 46 degrees-- so we're pretty close to seasonal.

What's we've been lacking is the normal December rains we should be getting. That returns tomorrow-- and will be a typical blustery NW afternoon with breezy sideways rain at times. While the lowland get rain around the Puget Sound-- the mountains look to get a lot more mountain snow.

We look to finish out the week with some showers. At this point, the timing on Friday showers looks to be mostly in the morning. With Saturday showers not likely around Seattle until the afternoon-- this window could be perfect for folks still hunting for that perfect tree. Sunday looks on/off showery all day long.

A note of caution if you're travelling into Oregon tomorrow-- travel there looks really dicey in the morning. Due to the topography of the Willamette Valley-- they've been locked in the deep freeze for many days now from Portland to Eugene. The stretch of I-5 though Oregon could be very icy when this next front moves in. Freezing rain is one of the most treacherous travel conditions and it's looking likely from Eugene to Salem tomorrow morning into the early afternoon. Be safe!
