COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (KRDO/CNN) – A six-year-old boy kissed a classmate and got suspended for sexual harassment. Now his mom is fighting to get the incident removed from his school record.

“It was during class yeah,” Hunter said. “We were doing reading group. And I leaned over and kissed her on the hand. That’s what happened.”

For that, six-year-old Hunter is at home instead of at school.

“I did something wrong,” Hunter said. “They sent me to the office, fair and square. I feel sorry. I’m trying to be good at school.”

“She was fine with it; they are “boyfriend and girlfriend”, Hunter’s mother, Jennifer said. “The other children saw it and went to the music teacher. That was the day I had the meeting with the principal, where she first said sexual harassment. This is taking it to an extreme that doesn’t need to be met with a six-year-old. Now my son is asking questions; what is sex mommy? It should not ever be said, sex, in a sentence with a six-year-old.”

Both Hunter and his mom admit that he’s had some trouble at school in the past. He’s been suspended for roughhousing and for kissing the same girl on the cheek.

“We’ve been working with him with the classroom disruption,” Jennifer said. “He was grounded for awhile. Big restrictions.”

“Are you trying to be good at school?”

“Yea, but I have a lot of energy,” Hunter said. “Six-year-olds, they have a lot of energy!”

The superintendent at School District RE-1 says Hunter’s record will remain within the district and that Hunter’s actions fit the school policy description of ‘sexual harassment.’

“How can you do this?” Jennifer said. “How can you say this about my child? Remove sexual harassment, remove it from his record. I need to stand up and fight for him. I can’t just let that happen because that’s not the case, that’s not what happened at all.”

A child clinical psychologist says it is normal for six-year-old boys to try to kiss girls. She believes suspending him, and calling the kiss sexual harassment, sends mixed messages to kids.

She says it would have been better for the school to use it as a learning opportunity.

This is utterly ridiculous! Complete idiocy!
Poor boy should not be treated this way … makes me sick!
It is the school that should be under scrutiny for insinuating such an act by an innocent child.

geese…when we were children 'kiss chasey' wads considered a normal part of playground behaviour… what is our world coming to when a child is punished for showing affection…. so sad.

Completely Bonkers !!! Wow this young man showed a little girl his respect and love by a Handkiss, many of the World's Greatest Romances started with a Handkiss or a Kiss for that matter !!! This School should have their heads examined. They should turn this Handkiss in a History Lesson and a Lesson of Etiquette and Good Manners then this whole thing would blow over and all these 6 years old would learn something positive and useful in the process which they could use in their whole life !! The best way to teach Respect, Etiquette, Good Manners is to start them young and explain how people dealt with Respect, Etiquette & Good Manners through the Ages and how in every country there are some other maybe even funny displays of the subject manner at hand. It could be turned into a Life Lesson for all of these kids but NO we are in the USA and We Have to Blow All Things relating to Feelings OUT OF PROPORTION BIG TIME !!! Heavens what is the USA doing to its people when they charge a 6 years old for an innocent Handkiss with suspension for Sexual Harassment. Do they even think what it will do to the reputation and even more the selfworth of this little gentleman !!! Unbelievable this is the most cruel way of teaching Right from Wrong if it was even a case of Right From Wrong !!!

The worst part is the Government School union teacher is too stupid to say "Now Johnny, don't do that", but instead turns it into a Federal Case of Victimology and war on women, the liberal’s political rally cry, or one of them.

It's all about politicals and gain for the selfish.

There’s basically two kinds of people in this world…. those that believe the ‘liberals’ did it……And those stupid enough to believe there are only two kinds of people in this world…

I'm a single 40 yr old male that has never been married or have had children….and this story completely outrages me! This a complete example of how this society is bringing up future generations to be completely politically correct. This is where kids are formed into what GOVERNMENT wants them to become, it's not as if this kid is a flight risk for anyone! At six years old, this kid has kissed his mother, his father, his grandmother, and many of his other close relatives! This is how he has learned to express the relationship of admiration with his feelings. If anyone is to be blamed, its the school system that has failed to recognize these traits and emotions…lets be honest, the school PROFESSIONALS, spend with him at least 1/4 of this kids weekly time with him….and they are educated to identify, recognize, and attempt to rectify the situation and or notify someone that can!! (besides, I am a taxpayer paying for this kid to be in school) Several generations of successful leaders in our history and present day were kids that grew up and had the innate instinct to socially be accepted by their piers and it starts at a very young age. We don't just get to the age of 15 and have those built-in necessities to start puberty, whether we like it or not…its an ongoing process from birth! Let's address the situation, come up with a solution that doesn't degrade the young child's natural characteristics and let's not scar him and make a mockery of him and his family, that's ridiculous! I think that the punishment of SUSPENDING him only aggravates the situation and teaches others to not have the family values that most of us, as adults, still posses today. I do not think that the event should be swept under the carpet, but with our technology, education, and several decades of experience surely we as a highly functionally society we can expect a more intelligent solution to what is called a "6 yr old sexual harassment" we can find less abrasive ways through TRUE child professionals. Which brings me to my next point! Our childcare in the school systems is simply regurgitating in the essence of we pay people with an education in teaching almost poverty level wages! Why shouldn't our youth of our country be educated by the most expensive of educators? Pay teachers a high rate of pay and the public will DEMAND a higher level of educators, it happens in every profession in the US except teachers. It will take a long time to reach this level where teachers are looked as upper scale providers, but wouldn't it be worth it? Other countries have surpassed us in this category and we are being left behind.
