Protesters rally to ask for $15-an-hour minimum wage

SEATTLE — Dozens of fast foot employees walked off their jobs today and marcedh from SeaTac to Seattle, demanding for a pay hike that increases the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Thursday’s march comes on the heels of a monumental vote in SeaTac, which raised the minimum wage for some employees to $15 an hour. Fast food employees were not included in that pay hike.

Employees at fast food restaurants complain that they cannot support a family on their current pay and need more money.

Today’s march will last eight hours. It begins at the Hilton in SeaTac on International Boulevard. Marchers will make their way into the heart of Seattle and stop at the steps of Seattle’s City Hall for a rally at 4:30 p.m.

This march will possibly disrupt traffic at times and could impact fast food restaurants in the area as workers will be encouraged to leave their jobs and join in the rally.

This story will be updated throughout the day. Below are some tweets from the scene:

You are not supposed to raise a family while working at a fast food job. You are supposed to move up to a higher paying position. Most of started life making minimum wage and moved up from there. I am not going to pay 15 dollars for a Mcdonalds value meal……

Go back to school or find a better/higher paying job! Do not stay at McDonald's forever! It's a stepping stone not a career you want to be in just to support your family!

If you know so Your shift you deserve to be fired. You want more money find a better job, get an education don't sat I can't afford it millions of dollars in grants go unused every year simply because no one apples for them, so rather than watching TV or goofing off on social media with your friends all night be productive and research the grants…. Oh wait I am sorry most of you are liberals and believe that everybody owes you and that you shouldn't have to put in the hard work and sacrifice it takes to get ahead.

You can tell by the comments, that some think you will not be able to afford a big mac, maybe you should go back to school, to get a better job so you can afford one. Lazy, big mouth. It’s time to be grown ups and raise the minimum wage.

    • Really

      Sooo Ted….
I am an actual small business owner. i own a restaurant. A nice one, I went to Culinary school, worked as a server and bust my ass 120 hours a week. I am tired of the entitled, self absorbed individuals that think the prices of things won't go up a 1/3…it's simply nonsense. If you want more in life work for it. Next question: Why is anyone having children if they can't afford them. You are asking every one to eat it so you can have more….SELF SERVING

Hi Ted you sound like one of the people who want to make a career out of fast food, that way you can avoid ever actually having a real job with some responsibility. And can just float your way through life. It is the fast food workers that need to grow up and get a better paying job not one that is for people with no work experience that are getting their first job. Fast food jobs are not and will never be for people trying to raise a family.
