Year Up: Program helps inner city students reach full potential

SEATTLE- College is expensive and for a lot of kids, even if they have the grades to get in, they don’t have the money.

But, a new national program is helping those students gain the skills they need to get a good job. It’s called Year Up.

It’s an intensive training program for low income students, that prepares them for jobs that might be tough to get with just a high school diploma. In the first 6 months, they learn the basics of information technology and professional business skills.

In the remaining 6 months, the students intern with a major company like Nordstrom, Google or Nintendo. Eighty-four percent of graduates are either employed or going to college full-time within four months of completing the program.
