A cold snap is here to sta-- BRRR!

SEATTLE -- What's the big story of the day? It's freezing, of course.

We are seeing some of the coldest temperatures of the year so far. Some areas were hovering in the mid-to-upper 20s around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, and Washington State Department of Transportation crews are out in force treating roadways using sanding and de-icing trucks.

Most of the main roads are looking good for the morning commute. Side streets might pose a small challenge, especially sidewalks and driveways. And many are waking up this morning to a thin layer of frost on their cars, so give yourself a little more time to scrap off your ride before heading into work.

There were a few accidents this morning on Interstate 5. A vehicle was blocking the off ramp to 520 on I-5 south.  Another crash was reported near Berkeley avenue near Joint Base Lewis McChord. A crash blocked two lanes at Marion street. No word on if these accidents were weather related.

Either way, bundle up!
