Boeing picks 15 potential sites for 777X production

EVERETT - The Boeing Company has formally initiated a site selection process for the 777X jet, by issuing a request for proposal (RFP) to more than a dozen sites/location nationwide.  Company spokesman Doug Alder confirmed Saturday that Washington state is one of the 15 sites under consideration.  The other sites include both existing Boeing locations and new "greenfield" sites, the Seattle Times reported.

"The intent of the process is to determine the location or locations for parts fabrication, fuselage build, join, assembly, paint and delivery of the 777X airplane. This decision will also encompass the location for the fabrication and assembly of the new composite wing for the airplane. We will determine if this work is done at one location, or  separately at different sites," Alder said in a statement to Q 13 Fox News.

"We’ve asked that proposals be returned to us by mid-December. A final decision regarding site selection for the 777X is expected early next year," Alder said.

Alder told the Times that Boeing has "no plans to re-engage in contract talks with the Machinists union."
