1,500 turkeys needed to feed the hungry in Seattle

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission needs 1,500 turkeys by Nov. 19 to keep up with Thanksgiving demand.

SEATTLE- Seattle's Union Gospel Mission is sending out a turkey call. They are in desperate need of 1,500 turkeys by Nov. 19 to feed the hungry.

Each year, the Mission holds a traditional Thanksgiving meal for the homeless. They also distribute turkeys to community food partners so families can have a turkey for their dinner.

According to Norm Hummel, the Mission's chef, they are currently turning away people because they don't have enough turkeys.

"It's going to be a rough holiday season. It's early November and we already have requests for 1,022 turkeys," Hummel said.

The Mission's One Meal/One Hope program is hoping they can reach their goal of 1,500 turkeys by next week.
