Local olive oil the best real oil in the country?

SEATTLE -- Many olive oils on the market have labels claiming they are extra-virgin, but it seems most are not.

A pair of studies by the University of California at Davis looked at several olive oil brands and found that up to 69 percent of them are not extra-virgin, even though their labels say otherwise.

In fact, researchers found that some of the better-selling brands like Bertolli, Carapelli, Colavita, Star and Pompeian do not meet international Olive Council sensory standards.

Researchers said that suggests the oils may be tainted with a cheaper blend.

As for olive oils that are considered the real deal? Included on the compiled by UC Davis researchers is Kirkland Organic, which is produced by Costco. Other brands that fared well were California Olive Ranch, Cogram Estate, Lucini, Lucero (Ascolano), and McEvoy Ranch Organic.
