Pete Carroll: A matter of time for Percy Harvin

Head coach Pete Carroll addressed the media this afternoon ahead of the team's 1:30 p.m. PT "Competition Wednesday" practice and preparation for the club's Week 10 road contest with the Atlanta Falcons.

Carroll said he threw around with wide receiver Percy Harvin (hip) before the team's walk-through practice today and was impressed with his work out, but noted that Harvin would not practice with the team on Wednesday.

"We're excited that he's strong and feeling good," said Carroll. "We'll see what he can do in the days ahead."

Carroll emphasized that it is a matter of when - not if - the wide receiver will return to action this season. While the club feels confident in what Harvin has demonstrated in his recovery from his August hip surgery, Carroll said they need to make sure he's physically fit in all areas, as Harvin's aggressive playstyle as a runner, returner, and receiver features quick cuts and breaks in route-running, changes in direction, and leaves him vulnerable to some of the more violent hits on the field.

"We just have to do it right because we want him to finish the season with us and have this not be an issue," Carroll said. "For him to play at this level he's got to be ready to go.

"When he really feels secure, solid, and great, then we'll bust him out."
