Washington State Wine uses humor in new national campaign

SEATTLE -- Washington State Wine is combining vino with a sense of humor in its new nationwide campaign, with help from comedian Greg Proops.

On Monday, the organization launched "The Recommendeuer," which features an interactive iPad app. Proops, best known for his work on "Whose Line is it Anyway?," is shown in a plaid suit holding a wine glass for the role of The Recommendeuer, an expert on all things Washington wine. Through the app, users will find a video series along with lots of information on the types of wine produced in the state, the history of the industry, visitor guides and much more.

Washington State Wine president Steve Warner said that the iPad perfectly combines education and tongue-in-cheek humor.

"Washington State is known for a down-to-earth, fun-loving wine community that produces premium-quality, critically-acclaimed wines, and we feel this campaign conveys the same sentiment," he said.

Currently, the Recommendeuer app is only available for the iPad, but an iPhone version is in the works and is expected to launch in 30 to 60 days.
