Real Change newspaper expanding distribution

BREMERTON -- The nonprofit group Real Change will begin distributing its weekly paper in Kitsap County and Bellevue, the Kitsap Sun reported Tuesday.

According to the Sun, the weekly "street newspaper" will distribute through the Kitsap Rescue Mission beginning on Nov. 6. The newspaper will first be distributed in Bremerton, but distribution is scheduled to expand to other parts of the county. About 10 vendors will get the program started, the Sun reported.

Vendors sell on public property or with the permission of private property owners.

Real Change is also expected to open a Bellevue satellite office later this year. Officials with the newspaper said they eventually plan to distribute statewide, the Sun reported.

The newspaper is sold by homeless and low-income vendors as a way to make money. Vendors buy newspapers for 60 cents each, and resell them for $2, keeping the profit. Many sell the paper to supplement a governmental fixed income.

The paper largely focuses on social justice issues.
