Federal Way man killed in Highway 2 collision

INDEX - A Federal Way man was killed, his passenger seriously injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 2 near Index on Saturday afternoon.  Washington State Patrol (WSP)reported that the couple was driving westbound in a Mercedes Benz around 4 p.m. when the driver tried to pass illegally crossing the double yellow line on a curve.  The car hit another vehicle, a Ford pickup, that was travelling eastbound, forcing the pickup over a guardrail, into a ditch.

The driver of the Mercedes Benz, died at the scene, WSP reported.  The passenger, a pregnant woman, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.  The driver of the pickup, and his two passengers (all men) were also taken to the hospital, but their conditions are not known.

WSP said that both directions of Highway 2  at mile post 37 were closed for almost four hours.  WSP is trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.  A witness said that the driver of the Mercedes was driving erratically prior to the collision.
