Luck runs out as Hawks lose tough one, 34-28

From Seahawks.com

INDIANAPOLIS -- Is it too easy to say Luck was on the Colts' side?

The Seattle Seahawks suffered their first loss of the season Sunday in Indianapolis against a more than competent Andrew Luck and a fast-paced Colts offense, failing to get in the end zone in the second half and falling to the Colts, 34-28.

The loss marks the first time the Hawks didn't come out on top since last year's playoff loss against the Atlanta Falcons.

In a match-up that was billed as a tale of two sophomore quarterbacks, both Luck and Russell Wilson held up to the hype. Wilson went 15-for-31 with two touchdowns and a last-second interception to seal the defeat with 1:30 left in the game. He helped the team with his legs, too, rushing for 102 yards on 13 carries. Marshawn Lynch came forward with his first 100-yard rushing game of the season, running for 102 yards on 17 carries.

But in the end, it wasn't enough to stop the top pick in the 2012 draft. Luck started slow on a couple of three-and-outs, but heated after a 73-yard bomb to T.Y. Hilton with 1:04 left in the first quarter. The touchdown passes kept coming, as Luck went 16-for-29 with 229 yards passing and two touchdowns.

In the end, it was the Hawks' famed secondary, the Legion of Boom, that couldn't hold the star quarterback. The defensive front played well, with star rushing back Trent Richardson gaining only 56 yards on 18 carries.

All-in-all, it was an even game, with first downs, total plays and time of possession just slightly favoring the Hawks. Steven Hauschka, the Hawks field goal kicker, nailed four field goals, with his longest coming from 42 yards out.

Special teams play saw a lot of action early, with the Hawks scoring a safety on a blocked punt with 4:53 left in the first quarter, and the Colts taking it to the house on a blocked field goal.

Hawks' Coach Pete Carroll said it was the team's inability to close out drives that really hurt the team's chances.

"Not closing out drives and taking field goals was a big difference today," Carroll said.

The Hawks head home to face the surprising 3-2 Tennessee Titans Oct. 13 at CenturyLink Field.
