EVERETT -- Two teens making a late night run to McDonalds got into a fight that escalated into a stabbing Monday night, the Everett Herald reported.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injures. The suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was released into the custody of his mother.

According to the Herald, a group of boys decided to head to McDonalds around 10 p.m. from their location in the 2500 block of 55th Street SW. Two boys disagreed over who "called shotgun" -- slang for reserving the front passenger seat of the car -- and started to fight.

The 17-year-old suspect said the boy repeatedly punched him in the head, so he pulled out a knife and stabbed the aggressor in the stomach as a way to protect himself. The victim was not able to give a statement.

Everett police are investigating the incident, and no charges have been filed.
