SEATTLE -- Amazon is gearing up for the holidays by going on a hiring blitz. The company announced plans to hire 70 thousand full-time seasonal workers. That's a 20 thousand increase from last year's holiday season.

The employees will work at one of Amazon's more than 40 fulfillment centers nationwide.

It's likely that some of the seasonal staff will score permanent positions. So far this year, more than 7,000 temporary Amazon employees have become full-time.

The Seattle-based company is just one of several large companies beefing up its workforce ahead of the busy holiday season.

It is unclear how many jobs will be added in the Seattle area.
