Loose bodies were surgically removed from the knee of 6-foot-7, 318-pound right tackle Breno Giacomini Monday.

Giacomini missed Sunday’s game and did not practice last week because of the problem with his knee. The word after the procedure, however, was encouraging.

“The surgery went really well,” coach Pete Carroll said during his weekly day-after Q&A session with the media. “The doctors were really pleased there wasn’t a lot of problem with his knee structurally and that he can get back quickly from this.

“The loose bodies are the little things floating around in your knee right there that get in the way. They were able to clean all that up. So we’re very hopeful he’ll have a good return.”

Until then, rookie Michael Bowie will continue to start.

“Mike’s going to be a good football player, we don’t have any question about that,” Carroll said. “He’s growing quickly. He was comfortable with it. It wasn’t too big for him. So I’m hoping we’ll see real steady improvement here in the next couple weeks until Breno has a chance to come back.”
