Motorcyclist dies after fall from Alaskan Way Viaduct

SEATTLE -- A motorcyclist went off the Alaskan Way Viaduct and was killed Wednesday night, Seattle police said.

The man's body was found around 9: 30 p.m. below the viaduct on Railroad Avenue, police said. The motorcycle remained on the viaduct.

It was not immediately known if there had been a traffic collision or if the motorcyclist lost control of his bike or if the fall was intentional. But police later determined that the man, riding a Triumph motorcycle, was ejected from the bike after striking an east guard rail. Speed may have been a factor in the collision, investigators said.

The northbound lanes of the viaduct and 1st Avenue South were closed for a police investigation. The lanes reopened early Thursday morning.
