UW president gets boost in pay
SEATTLE -- University of Washington president Michael Young got a 4 percent raise Thursday, boosting his annual salary from $548,000 to $570,000, the Seattle Times reported. The pay increase was unanimously approved and is the first pay increase he has received since he was hired July 1, 2011.
The Times said the college's regents deemed Young's performance to be "solid" and regent Joanne Harrell said when UW received an increase in funding from the legislature last year, Young was instrumental in freezing tuition at UW for the next two years.
The Chronicle of Higher Education listed Young as the 12th highest-paid university president in 2012. Young's predecessor, Mark Emmert, rankled some students, faculty and lawmakers when Emmert was announced to be the second highest-paid university president in the country, the Times said.
