Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound sponsoring 'Shred-A-Thon' events to fight ID theft

It's called a “Shred-A-Thon" -- and it's helping fight identity theft. Next Saturday, September 21st, Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound is sponsoring the event at  three different locations from 8am-12pm

"Identity theft is one of the leading crimes in America,” says Ret. Det. Myrle Carner with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound. “One of the things we're trying to accomplish at the 'shred-a-thon', is basically to have people bring all their documents that could lead to them being the victim of identity theft. We're going to have onsite a huge shredder. You bring your items there. They're protected because we're going to have officers there also. But, they're going to shredded so you know they're shredded, and that'll keep them out of the hands of the people that are trying to steal your identity and cause you to be a victim of crime.”
