More MSN contractor jobs cut

BELLEVUE -- More bad news for contract employees of MSN.

The Seattle Times reports that more MSN contractors are being notified that their jobs are being cut.  A number of the contractors work out of offices in Bellevue.  According to the Times, MSN Entertainment told contractors by email that its freelance budget was being eliminated as of Oct. 1.

None of Microsoft's full-time employees are being cut.  Microsoft says the cuts are part of a larger merger between Bing Apps and MSN, which was announced earlier this summer.  One employee told the Times that the cuts affect everyone from bloggers and freelance writers to producers and editors.

Microsoft won't say how exactly how many contractors are affected by the move, but they did say MSN is increasing spending on full-time employees.

MSN is Microsoft's news portal and gets at least 120 million visitors a month. Contractors work to write and edit content for MSN's various channels.
