Couple pays for wedding with pocket change

INVERNESS, Scotland – In America, the average cost of a wedding is around $28,000. Then comes this story out of Scotland, where a couple paid under $2 for their wedding and reception.

According to the Daily Mail, Georgina Porteous and Sid Innes got married in a barn at their home. They got free furniture and lights online. Friends were asked to bring food instead of gifts, and an aunt baked a three-tiered wedding cake. Their rings were handcrafted from antlers found in the couples’ garden.

The bride did buy her dress. She found the 1960’s era ivory gown on the website, freecycle.org. The gown cost $1.56. The only other cost they couldn’t get out of paying for, the $110 marriage fee.

"I don't see the point in these massive weddings,” Porteous said. “We didn't want or need a big, fancy affair. We had a ball. The day went beautifully. People said it was the best wedding they have ever been to."
