Burglary suspect dies fleeing police

PARKLAND, Wash. -- A 19-year-old died in a car crash while fleeing the scene of a burglary early Tuesday morning in Pierce County, police said.

The suspected burglar allegedly broke into a espresso stand at 139th Pacific Avenue early Tuesday morning. When police arrived on the scene, the man allegedly sped off in a 1990 Acura.

Police chased him and he crashed his car into a light pole on 112th Street in Parkland. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

All lanes of northbound Pacific Avenue were closed at 112th Street early Tuesday. Police believe the deceased suspect acted alone, and his name and age were not immediately released.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
