Police negotiate surrender of suspect barricaded in north Seattle

SEATTLE -- Seattle police negotiated Thursday night with a teenage male believed wanted for felony theft who had barricaded himself inside a north Seattle apartment and was armed with butcher knives, police said.

The teen was taken into custody around 11 p.m. It was unknown if anyone else was inside the apartment in the 1100 block of North 94th Street, but no injuries were reported. The teen was transported to the hospital and then booked into the Youth Services Center.

The incident began shortly after 6 p.m., when officers initially responded to a report of a teenager who broke into his parent’s house near North 92nd Street and Aurora Avenue North.  The suspect fled and then barricaded himself in an apartment nearby, police said.

Patrol officers surrounded the building and called negotiators and SWAT team officers to the scene.

The suspect presented himself on a balcony and in a window of the apartment brandishing two butcher knives, police said. It is unknown what caused his injuries.
