Firefighters say Med Mex fire purposely set

SEATTLE -- Seattle Fire investigators said a fire early Monday morning at the Med Mex restaurant in Central District was the result of an incendiary device.

Firefighters were dispatched to the restaurant in the 1400 block of 23rd Avenue at the corner of 23rd Avenue and East Union Street around 2:14 a.m. Monday. Firefighters found flames billowing from an exterior fire on the backside of the restaurant near a storage area. Smoke and flames were intense, but officials managed to put out the blaze within 8 minutes of arriving.

No one was inside the building and there were no reported injuries.

The Seattle Police Department Arson and Bomb Squad is investigating the fire that cost about $90,000 in damage.
