SUMNER, Wash. -- A hit-and-run driver accidentally cut the power for hundreds of Sumner residents Wednesday morning.

A single female was driving a truck around 12:30 a.m. in the 13600 block of Valley Avenue East near Houston Road when she allegedly lost control and hit a power pole. The woman quickly fled the scene, and neighbors called police.

Police called Puget Sound Energy to restore power that the driver knocked out; primarily in Sumner's north industrial area.

Police believe the woman was speeding and driving under the influence. However, they didn't believe anyone else was involved in the crash. Witnesses described the woman in her 20s or 30s with blonde hair and wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Anyone with information on the driver is encouraged to call the Sumner Police Tip Line at (253) 299-5678.

Valley Avenue East was closed for a short time following the crash, but was reopened by 5 a.m. Police are still investigating the crash.
