Don’t toss out leftovers – swap them with a new app

SAN FRANCISCO – Next time you’re at a restaurant and have leftovers, consider giving them to someone else through your smartphone or tablet.

A Seattle native created an app called “LeftoverSwap.” It allows people to share partially eaten food with total strangers. It shows photos of the food, along with a location and allows users to claim the leftovers for delivery or pick-up at a reduced cost. LeftoverSwap swap says 40 percent of food we produce goes to waste, and with 70 percent of people overweight, both of these problems could be solved with this app.

According to KFBK in Sacramento, the developer, Dan Newman, got the idea for the app after he couldn’t find any space in his fridge for leftover pizza. The app is already live in San Francisco. No word when it will be active in Seattle.
