Fleeing felon injures cop, teen in foot chase

ORTING, Wash. -- A fleeing 28-year-old felon injured a police officer and a 13-year-old boy who tried to stop him Wednesday night, the Orting Police Department said.

Officers contacted the suspect around 8:25 p.m. near the Village Green subdivision in Orting to arrest the man on an outstanding felony warrant. According to police, the man took off on foot when he was approached by police. One of two police officers injured himself in the chase.

A 13-year-old boy tried to intervene when the suspect attempted to grab a bicycle, but he was allegedly hit to the ground.

The suspect was arrested a few minutes later by police. He was booked into Pierce county Jail on the felony warrant for first-degree trafficking stolen property and first-degree theft. He is expected to be charged with assault and resisting arrest.

Both the injured officer and teen were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup for non-life threatening injuries.
