Bullies at workplace more common

SEATTLE — Bullies in the workplace are becoming more common.

Studies suggest as many as 84 percent of employees are affected in some way by workplace bullies and sometimes an abrasive personality even thrives on the job.

A group of researchers found that workplace bullies are very socially skilled and use their bullying behavior strategically to coerce others into providing them with resources. The behavior often goes undetected by co-workers because the bullies are skilled enough to figure out who they can target to get ahead.

    Christie – I have seen some information on the U of Buffalo's Professor Treadway and we have in fact referenced it in our social media efforts. As greater awareness bring greater attention by management the important question becomes how long it will take for processes to be implemented that corrects the situations. The improving economic climate will in our view play an important role because good people will simply leave bad environments… employee retention becoming the issue management will raise its awareness and efforts because of.

    Those organizations who encourage employee feedback and link them to methods for follow up and administration via tools will benefit by drawing quality human capital from their industry.
