Insanity defense rejected, man convicted of killing grandparents in 2011

OAK HARBOR, Wash. -- Joshua David Lambert, 30, was convicted Thursday of killing his two grandparents in 2011 and will likely face life in prison, the Whidbey News Times reported.

A jury rejected Lambert's insanity defense altogether and found him guilty on all counts, which include two counts of first-degree murder, kidnapping and several burglary and guns charges, the News Times said.

The jury only deliberated six hours before returning its verdict. No sentencing date was immediately set.

Lambert had been barred from the courtroom since Tuesday because, while acting as his own attorney, he grew angry at a prosecution's expert witness, psychologist Brian Judd.

Lambert became angry when Judd said he did not exhibit any of the typical schizophrenic symptoms that Lambert claimed contributed to his killing his two grandparents in 2011.

According to the News Times, Lambert said the witness was misstating the facts, and that he did indeed suffer from schizophrenia.

Lambert was convicted of stabbing his paternal and maternal grandfather to death on  Oct. 3, 2011.
